Do Super Greens Make You Poop?

Super green powders are packed with the essential vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients that you need to function every day at an optimum level of health. In addition, although different green powders contain different ingredients, most of them also support the digestive system, boost the immune system, increase the health of the heart, detox the body, and protect cells from radical damage.

There are so many impressive health benefits when it comes to consuming super greens, but many people also worry about the side effects from consuming green powders, especially diarrhea and in some cases with bloating.

So, we’re going to take a look at whether super greens really can make you poop!

The main reason why some people might experience diarrhea when taking a super greens powder is that they aren’t used to the ingredients within the formula. If someone hasn’t consumed the correct amount of vegetables, fiber, or probiotics for a long time, or possibly ever, their body will be shocked when all of these essential nutrients are consumed within one dose.

Although no one should suffer any extreme reaction to consuming a green powder for the first time, unless they are allergic to any of the ingredients, it can cause less extreme side effects like diarrhea. In addition to this, some components can contribute to diarrhea more than others.

Magnesium is an essential mineral that supports an array of bodily functions. Typically, magnesium will only be the cause of diarrhea when too much is consumed, so make sure the powder you are taking isn’t overdosing you – the RDA for magnesium is 310–420 mg for adults depending on age and gender (1).

Super greens powders contain fibrous ingredients that support the digestive system, regulate bowel movements, and reduce inflammation. However, if you haven’t been receiving enough fiber and then suddenly do due to a green powder, this could cause diarrhea.

Super greens powders contain an array of potent antioxidant ingredients, from kale to blueberries. Antioxidants within the formula will push the toxins from the body, and therefore if you have had a particularly bad diet, you will feel as if your body is going through a cleanse – the antioxidants are removing toxins by causing you diarrhea.

If you do get diarrhea when consuming a greens powder, don’t give up with the powder or lose hope.

Instead, half the recommended serving size and build up slowly to the recommended serving size. Doing this will allow your body to get used to the ingredients gently.

Super greens formulas could possibly give you an upset stomach when first consuming them, but as long as you ease your body into this healthy transition, you should have no problems at all. If you do, just half the dose and build up from there.
